Roots to Roses offers inclusive, trauma-informed doula care for families across Indianapolis and Central Indiana—with a special focus on LGBTQIA+ parents and surrogacy journeys. This work is grounded in advocacy, emotional safety, and the belief that every family deserves care that honors their story.
I’m Dori—the heart behind Roots to Roses. My lived experience as a queer parent and partner to a gestational surrogate shape everything I offer. This isn’t just my profession—it’s my purpose.

Dear Mama-to-Be,
Welcome to Roots to Roses—a space created for you to feel safe, heard, and empowered as you step into motherhood. I’m Dorothea Rose, but my friends call me Dori, and since we’re in this together, I hope you will too.
Before I ever supported another family, I was the one holding my breath. I had heard the horror stories—birth as trauma, not triumph. I entered my own journey into parenthood with fear in my chest and questions swirling in my mind. But what I discovered changed everything: birth didn’t have to be terrifying. It could be powerful. It could be safe. It could be mine.
That experience lit a fire in me. And alongside supporting my spouse through a surrogacy journey that expanded our understanding of family, I came to believe deeply in the importance of inclusive, compassionate care—especially for first-time parents and those walking nontraditional paths.
As a Certified Labor & Postpartum Doula and VBAC Specialist, my passion lies in helping you navigate the uncertainties of birth and the transition into motherhood with confidence. Whether you’re unsure about your birth plan, overwhelmed by choices, or simply needing a steady presence through labor and postpartum, I’ll be by your side every step of the way.
Your body knows what to do. My job is to help you listen to it, trust it, and embrace the incredible power you hold. Let’s build an experience that honors your instincts, your choices, and your strength.
